Bird Crash Collages

Hand cut analog collages made from John J. Audubon prints found in The Birds of North America ©1941

These collages are cut, woven and arranged mostly on original mono-prints. The gestural background prints and the Sumi-nagashi ink prints give the pieces a lot of movement. The birds, when combined and taken out of the context of Audubon’s serene backgrounds, seem to be crashing into each other. Their bird expressions seem anxious, confused and sometimes humorous and I love playing with their textures, shapes and colors to create a beautiful conflagration of dancing birds.

I have created many commissions for clients who have requested favorite birds or color schemes.
